The first card I gave was to a cashier who gave outstanding service at a supermarket. She still gives me a hug when I see her.--Rev. Elizabeth H.
I spend a lot of time at coffee shops and I love to watch people. I have given many SMILE Award cards to the people working at the shops and it is so fun to sit back and watch how their attitude gets even more upbeat with the rest of the customers.
After I shared a SMILE Card with a store greeter, the store changed its recommendations for training new employees. Carl E.
I shared a SMILE card with the receptionist at my clinic and she said that it made her day and I knew that everyone else who came into that clinic that day would have a more pleasant experience.
I gave a SMILE award card to a waitress and when I came back the next time she pulled it out and said she carries it in her order book to help her when she is having a bad day.
I encountered someone who went out of her way to help me and I didn't have a SMILE Award card with me to share. Instead I just verbally told her how important what she had done was to me. I realized that sometimes a verbal SMILE Award is just as good as the written one. However, the next time I saw her, I did give her an actual SMILE Award card which she loved.
I gave a SMILE card to a guard at the gate to a military station. He was so alive and happy, just made me glad to see him early in the morning, just the right way to start a busy Monday morning. Pat K
My morning routine includes walking the boardwalk along the ocean front. I make it a habit to smile at people as we pass. Recently I approached a person who appeared to be homeless. I remembered an article about the homeless and how they often feel invisible. I decided to consciously make eye contact with this woman and smile. When she got close to me she looked at me with such gratitude and softly said "Thank you for smiling at me". I will never forget that moment and I will let it be a constant reminder of the power of a smile.
